Left Lane: Michael Malmgren Runs 6.867/199.14, Now #2 Right Lane: Jimmy Alund Runs 6.844/201.91, Now #1
Left Lane: Michael Malmgren Runs 6.867/199.14, Now #2 Right Lane: Jimmy Alund Runs 6.844/201.91, Now #1
Left Lane: Bob Benza Runs 6.828/204.42, Now #2 Right Lane: Tom Hammonds Runs 6.728/205.79, Now #1
Left Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 6.866/173.65, Now #4 Right Lane: Tony Rizzo Runs 6.877/177.60, Now #6
Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.690/206.07, Now #1 Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.732/204.98, Now #3
Morgan makes a stout pass. Alan Reinhart predicted this earlier today, as he said Morgan had completely rewired his car to solve the problems the Mopar had been experiencing. Left Lane: Dwayne Rice Runs 12.726/68.09, Now #10 Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.663/206.83, Now #1
Rice is still struggling with getting his car to leave straight as it heads hard left straight to the wall.
In the other lane, Allen gives his dad another get well message. Left Lane: Max Naylor Runs 6.704/205.66, Now #4 Right Lane: Tom Martino Runs 6.668/207.85, Now #2
Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.694/206.57, Now #5 Right Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 6.675/207.43, Now #3
Warren's car looked a bit better on the front half than it has been, and the results show in the qualifying order for now.
Warren Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-0.985 sec., 330ft-2.801, 660ft-4.307/163.61mph, 1,000ft-5.603
Kenny Koretsky's incremental times: 60ft-0.991 sec., 330ft-2.794, 660ft-4.294/164.29mph, 1,000ft-5.586 Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.693/206.57, Now #5 Right Lane: Roger Brogdon Runs 6.717/207.11, Now #8
Left Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.681/205.88, Now #4 Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.683/207.85, Now #5
Slick pass on both sides - literally so for Jeg, as his car heads to the centerline right at the hit. If he makes a straight pass, watch out.
Erica continues to show strength. Left Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 6.688/205.63, Now #6 Right Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.701/206.73, Now #10
Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.685/206.61, Now #6 Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.735/206.13, Now #16
I've already heard rumblings that another car here is running Stanfield power. More info as I can get it.
Edwards lays down a sweet pass. Stanfield looked decent on the hit but the car fell back going through the 330 clocks.
Mike Edwards' incremental times: 60ft-0.977 sec., 330ft-2.791, 660ft-4.297/163.77mph, 1,000ft-5.593
Greg Stanfield's incremental times: 60ft-0.994 sec., 330ft-2.818, 660ft-4.335/162.68mph, 1,000ft-5.638 Left Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.662/207.37, Now #1 Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.692/207.15, Now #10
OK, kids, listen up. That Connolly kid is here to play!
Kurt watches Dave go to the #1 spot.
But wait - the Summit wrecking crew is up next. Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.676/207.50, Now #6 Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.675/206.76, Now #5
Amazing!
For once, it wasn't a Summit car performance. It's amazing they are where they are in the order.
Stay tuned, race fans. This is going to be a real good one.
Hey, and if you've stayed with us so far, I apologize for being rusty. Here's the weather at the start of the session:

He usually returns with at least one shipping container of Pro Stock parts.
Nice passes for both cars. Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.682/206.48, Now #8 Best prior run: 6.735/206.13, Was #21 Right Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 6.709/206.76, Now #18 Best prior run: 6.866/173.65, Was #26 Max Naylor is on the bump at 6.704
Stanfield, along with the rest of us, is looking for a big number.
Lots of careful prep on the line with measurements being made.
Stanfield gets into the top half but won't stay there. Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.717/204.82, Now #20 Best prior run: 6.732/204.98, Was #22 Right Lane: Bob Benza Runs 6.745/205.69, Now #24 Best prior run: 6.828/204.42, Was #25 Krisher continues to struggle. Benza finds that Pro Stock didn't get any easier in his time off. Left Lane: Tom Hammonds Runs 6.723/205.79, Now #21 Best prior run: 6.728/205.79, Was #22 Right Lane: Max Naylor Runs 6.684/206.48, Now #10 Best prior run: 6.704/205.66, Was #17 Hammonds made a nice pass in the first session and looks like he has his program running well already.
Naylor wants to show that his late year 2006 performance was not a fluke. I think he just did. Left Lane: Roger Brogdon Runs 6.697/206.01, Now #17 Best prior run: 6.717/207.11, Was #19 Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.688/207.75, Now #12 Best prior run: 6.694/206.57, Was #16 Regardless of any Nitro Women, my vote for NHRA story of the year so far is Brogdon. He's made racing in a cutthroat class look easy.
Think about who the favorite in this matchup would have been a year ago. Now switch sides.
And the freshman continues to show his stuff, running door-to-door with the Professor. He gets in as he crosses the finish line. Problem is, he's bumped out as WJ follows him across the line.
Roger Brogdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.993 sec., 330ft-2.800, 660ft-4.306/163.63mph, 1,000ft-5.604 Warren Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-0.986 sec., 330ft-2.799, 660ft-4.305/163.65mph, 1,000ft-5.599 Left Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.691/206.70, Now #15 Best prior run: 6.701/206.73, Was #18 Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.709/207.24, Now #17 Best prior run: 6.693/206.57, Was #16 Yates gets in and Gaines moves out. Talk about a bumpfest! Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.660/207.02, Now #2 Best prior run: 6.692/207.15, Was #16 Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.657/208.17, Now #1 Best prior run: 6.690/206.07, Was #14 KJ is on the bump -- at a staggering 6.692. It's only the second session, remember.
Think Larry got his Dodge fixed?
Kurt Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-0.982 sec., 330ft-2.781, 660ft-4.280/164.45mph, 1,000ft-5.571
Larry Morgan's incremental times: 60ft-0.986 sec., 330ft-2.782, 660ft-4.280/164.43mph, 1,000ft-5.571 Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.632/207.75, Now #1 Best prior run: 6.683/207.85, Was #11 Right Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 6.681/207.02, Now #10 Best prior run: 6.688/205.63, Was #15 Remember that guy who used to win championships?
He's Baaaaa-ack.
A strong pass for Richie gets ignored.
Jeg Coughlin's incremental times: 60ft-0.978 sec., 330ft-2.770, 660ft-4.263/165.13mph, 1,000ft-5.549
Richie Stevens' incremental times: 60ft-0.989 sec., 330ft-2.792, 660ft-4.296/163.55mph, 1,000ft-5.591 Left Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.667/207.72, Now #6 Best prior run: 6.675/206.76, Was #8 Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.685/206.92, Now #14 Best prior run: 6.685/206.61, Was #14 Line said coming into this race he thought a 210 was possible if the weather was right.
Didn't happen here. A measure of Ken Black Racing's success is that Jason will be bummed at a #6 position. Left Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 6.668/207.34, Now #8 Best prior run: 6.675/207.43, Was #8 Right Lane: Erica Enders Runs 7.045/159.55, Now #11 Best prior run: 6.681/205.88, Was #11 Erica steps off at the big end, but I'm not sure why. She's still safely in the field at this point, though.
Koretsky runs a sixty to anchor the top half. Left Lane: Tom Martino Runs 6.851/206.32, Now #7 Best prior run: 6.668/207.85, Was #7 Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 9.798/93.47, Now #9 Best prior run: 6.676/207.50, Was #9
6.676 and it's not good enough for top half. Greg will change all that in a moment.
Anderson seems to have transmission problems as the engine rpms flare going in to 3rd gear. He coasts down the track. Nothing like adding a bit of drama. Maybe these guys aren't going to run away with things. Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.644/206.67, Now #2 Best prior run: 6.663/206.83, Was #5 Right Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.652/208.17, Now #3 Best prior run: 6.662/207.37, Was #4 Yates survives with a 6.691.
This was a classic Gainesville Pro Stock session but I'll bet big money the real fun is to come.
Congratulations to everybody at the Cagnazzi shop for climbing the tough road to the top of the mountain - for tonight at least.

Results for Qualifying Round 3
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - GAINESVILLE - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 38th annual ACDelco NHRA Gatornationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Matt Scranton Runs 6.660/207.66, Now #5 Best prior run: 13.587/62.93, Was #27 These are the kinds of conditions that Pro Stock fans live for. There's a very real chance that we're going to witness history before the last car runs. 210, anyone?
Scranton gets everyone's attention with this blast. Of course, he's been faster before in his Sport Compact.
Is this an indication of what's to come? Left Lane: Tom Martino No Time, Now #9 Best prior run: 6.668/207.85, Was #8 Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.566/211.20, Now #1 Best prior run: 6.676/207.50, Was #10 And look at these two. Who would have thought GA would be in the second pair?
And Martino gets pushed back from the line!
Greg will single.
ANDERSON IS ALL OVER THE TRACK
I guess that MPH question got settled pretty quickly.
211.20!!!!!! Left Lane: Jimmy Alund Runs 6.786/203.95, Now #26 Best prior run: 6.810/201.91, Was #26 Right Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.610/209.62, Now #2 Best prior run: 6.681/205.88, Was #12 Enders wants to show the boys she has something for them, too. This team has been on an upswing so don't be surprised for her to step to the very top.
It's the third fastest speed ever and for now Erica is in the #2 spot. Left Lane: Tony Rizzo Runs 6.891/205.72, Now #23 Best prior run: 6.727/205.29, Was #23 Right Lane: Michael Malmgren No Time, Now #27 Best prior run: 6.839/196.59, Was #27 Michael gets pushed back after the burnout.
They're cleaning up a spot in the right lane behind the water.
Big time shake and spin for Rizzo. Left Lane: Tom Hammonds Runs 6.656/207.78, Now #6 Best prior run: 6.723/205.79, Was #22 Right Lane: Bob Benza Runs 6.702/208.10, Now #21 Best prior run: 6.745/205.69, Was #25 After a short cleanup of Malmgren's spill, we pull the next pair into the water. The cleanup shouldn't affect the lane in any way as it's entirely behind the water.
There's a real chance that Gainesville is going to be able to take back the Pro Stock Capitol title from Richmond. Anderson's run just broke Richmond's stranglehold on the 10 quickest PS runs.
Way to go Hammonds! The nicest guy in Pro Stock lays down an exceptional pass. Left Lane: Ron Krisher No Time, Now #24 Best prior run: 6.717/204.82, Was #23 Right Lane: Dwayne Rice Runs 6.657/209.17, Now #7 Best prior run: 6.744/205.79, Was #25 Krisher is the third car this session to be pushed back after the burnout.
It's a straight run for Dwayne which is what he's been looking for for a very long time.
Rice finally shows a little bit of what he's capable of.
Max Naylor is on the bump spot at 6.684.
By the way, check out Rice's MPH. Left Lane: Roger Brogdon Runs 6.605/208.84, Now #2 Best prior run: 6.697/206.01, Was #21 Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.607/209.39, Now #3 Best prior run: 6.693/206.57, Was #20 I would not be surprised at anything the silver car in the left lane does. They have been showing flashes of brilliance.
The Hemis are welded together. Left Lane: Jim Yates Runs 10.236/88.25, Now #22 Best prior run: 6.691/206.70, Was #21 Right Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 6.634/208.71, Now #6 Best prior run: 6.709/206.76, Was #23 Yates scares everybody as he drops the clutch. The car makes a hard move to the right, then he corrects left and the run is immediately junk.
He'll need the last session to try and get in. Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 14.315/52.06, Now #19 Best prior run: 6.682/206.48, Was #18 Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.587/209.69, Now #2 Best prior run: 6.688/207.75, Was #21 Remember, the last time we had one of these free-for-alls Stanfield briefly held the record.
Stanfield gets crazy in the left lane and has to lift.
Remember the history part I was mentioning earlier? WJ puts down the quickest and fastest pass in his career. He's telling us from the top end that the clutch was a little light. Left Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 6.895/207.30, Now #18 Best prior run: 6.668/207.34, Was #17 Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.575/210.18, Now #2 Best prior run: 6.685/206.92, Was #21 Edwards lets us know we shouldn't forget about him. Not too shabby for a single car team, just the second fastest run ever.
Mike Edwards' incremental times: 60ft-0.971 sec., 330ft-2.747, 660ft-4.227/166.54mph, 1,000ft-5.501
Sorry for not putting in the short times. I'm having so much fun I forgot. Left Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.868/207.98, Now #17 Best prior run: 6.667/207.72, Was #16 Right Lane: Max Naylor Runs 6.599/209.72, Now #4 Best prior run: 6.684/206.48, Was #21 Line blows the tires off the car and disappoints everyone other than his competitors.
Speaking of which, Naylor runs 6.599 and bumps Line out.
Let me repeat that.
Jason Line is not qualified. Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.669/209.10, Now #16 Best prior run: 6.660/207.02, Was #16 Right Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 9.575/96.08, Now #20 Best prior run: 6.681/207.02, Was #20 KJ is on the bump as he stages. Stevens needs to pick up.
Both cars were way too aggressive and had serious problems off the line. Kurt can get to the finish line but Richie can't, at least not under power. Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.602/208.42, Now #6 Best prior run: 6.644/206.67, Was #10 Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.566/210.31, Now #2 Best prior run: 6.657/208.17, Was #14 This is 2007, not 2006 and the prospect of this pair on the line is a lot different. The Hemis have been showing big power lately.
No kidding. Morgan ties GA, but will be second because he ran ONLY 210.31
Told ya we'd have fun. Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.601/209.43, Now #7 Best prior run: 6.632/207.75, Was #10 Right Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.600/209.72, Now #6 Best prior run: 6.652/208.17, Was #12 It's far from over. The Cagnazzi boys might have something to say.
The cars are welded together.
We're finished with one of the greatest sessions in Pro Stock history.

Results for Qualifying Round 4
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - GAINESVILLE - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 38th annual ACDelco NHRA Gatornationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Jimmy Alund Runs 6.749/204.57, Now #26 Best prior run: 6.786/203.95, Was #26 Weather conditions: air temperature 71 degrees, relative humidity 17 percent, barometer 28.87 inches, adjusted altitude 2,169 feet, track temperature 110 degrees.
Conditions are much worse than this morning, so I don't look for any new records. But when you look at the qualifying sheet, I'll bet there is going to be a bunch of moving around and bumping.
Left Lane: Michael Malmgren Runs 6.748/204.76, Now #26 Best prior run: 6.839/196.59, Was #27 Right Lane: Tony Rizzo Runs 7.081/145.16, Now #25 Best prior run: 6.727/205.29, Was #25 The Swedes continue to lay down personal bests, but with a 6.660 bump...
Allen Johnson and David Nickens are standing right in front of me watching the passes. I can't hear them and I can't read lips but I will guarantee you the body motions Johnson was making were in explanation of his previous shake. Left Lane: Bob Benza Runs 6.665/207.94, Now #17 Best prior run: 6.702/208.10, Was #23 Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.817/203.37, Now #24 Best prior run: 6.717/204.82, Was #24 Benza makes a great run, his quickest and fastest ever, but misses by .005. Left Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 10.399/85.71, Now #22 Best prior run: 6.681/207.02, Was #21 Right Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.653/208.52, Now #13 Best prior run: 6.691/206.70, Was #23 OK, it's twilight zone time. Neither of these guys are qualified.
Yates gets real crazy off the line but manages to get it straightened out and bumps in.
Stevens' car hooks hard left and he has to give it up before he scrapes. Left Lane: Dwayne Rice Runs 6.703/207.59, Now #16 Best prior run: 6.657/209.17, Was #15 Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.628/208.78, Now #12 Best prior run: 6.682/206.48, Was #23 Was there any doubt? Stanfield's remarkable Brother Act power puts him in the field.
Rice is now on the bump. Left Lane: Justin Humphreys No Time, Now #13 Best prior run: 6.634/208.71, Was #13 Right Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 9.893/84.36, Now #22 Best prior run: 6.668/207.34, Was #22 Bad news for the new guy as Humphrey's car won't start.
Koretsky has the chance to bump out Rice.
Ain't gonna happen. He blows the tires off through first, second, and maybe more. Left Lane: Erica Enders Runs 13.350/62.53, Now #11 Best prior run: 6.610/209.62, Was #11 Right Lane: Tom Martino Runs 6.666/209.23, Now #20 Best prior run: 6.668/207.85, Was #21 Dwayne Rice is a great guy and it would be cool for him to qualify for his first race. But when these unqualified cars keep coming to the line - like Martino - you have to wonder. Remember, Line is still not in.
Martino makes a vicious move to the right and it kills his chance. The defending Gators champion will not be racing tomorrow.
Erica goes into violent shake and shuts off. Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.620/209.04, Now #11 Best prior run: 6.607/209.39, Was #10 Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.597/211.03, Now #5 Best prior run: 6.667/207.72, Was #21 Line has ALWAYS qualified. Is this the day the string is broken?
But horsepower always shows, doesn't it? Line has a conservative leave and gets the job done.
That bumps Rice and puts Hammonds on the bump. Left Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.620/209.10, Now #7 Best prior run: 6.600/209.72, Was #7 Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 11.543/76.14, Now #19 Best prior run: 6.660/207.02, Was #19 KJ isn't in for his sponsor's race. Talk about pressure.
His car goes nuts off the line and KJ is outta here.
Connolly does a nice job of repeating. Left Lane: Max Naylor Runs 6.635/208.91, Now #6 Best prior run: 6.599/209.72, Was #6 Right Lane: Matt Scranton Runs 6.622/208.81, Now #13 Best prior run: 6.660/207.66, Was #18 You guys out there with the keyboards want to talk about Sport Compact racers now?
Look who's not in. Look who just went safely in and who was already in 13th.
And by the way, Naylor continues to impress. Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.603/209.52, Now #4 Best prior run: 6.587/209.69, Was #4 Right Lane: Tom Hammonds Runs 6.631/209.17, Now #15 Best prior run: 6.656/207.78, Was #17 For once, WJ is safely in. Hammonds is trying to make his debut a good one.
And Tom gets back in, warming hearts everywhere. Seriously. Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.586/209.17, Now #3 Best prior run: 6.575/210.18, Was #3 Right Lane: Roger Brogdon Runs 6.617/209.43, Now #10 Best prior run: 6.605/208.84, Was #10 The field is set. In a race of big things happening, how about Brogdon being 3 for 3 as for qualifying in his NHRA career?
Nice passes and big MPH for both cars. Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.597/209.43, Now #2 Best prior run: 6.566/210.31, Was #2 Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 14.586/57.80, Now #9 Best prior run: 6.602/208.42, Was #9 Johnson doesn't make it off the line and Morgan continues to be consistently among the very quickest and fastest. Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.643/210.18, Now #1 Best prior run: 6.566/211.20, Was #1 Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin No Time, Now #8 Best prior run: 6.601/209.43, Was #8
Jeg did the burnout and rolled forward to stage. I look up and they're pushing him back.
Greg shakes, shimmies, and moves all over the track. He gets enough wheelspeed to run the big MPH he needs and he locks up the MPH record for the time being. I wouldn't be surprised if all that wasn't by plan.
That's the last pass of a remarkable qualifying series.
Bet the racing tomorrow will be just as good.
And once again, my personal "I'm impressed" award goes to Roger Brogdon for going 3 for 3, the Sport Compact guys for showing the internet crew chiefs how wrong they were, and to Dwayne Rice for coming so, so close at one of the best Pro Stock races in history.
Oh, yeah, there were some stupendous numbers put up, too.

Results for Elimination Round 1
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1 eliminations in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 38th annual ACDelco NHRA Gatornationals: W/L Driver R-Time E-Time Speed
(W) Jeg Coughlin (Slammer's/Jeg's Cobalt) 0.042 6.582 210.01 (L) Allen Johnson (J & J Racing Stratus) 0.014 6.618 208.65
Weather conditions: air temperature 66 degrees, relative humidity 19 percent, barometer 28.44 inches, adjusted altitude 1,872 feet, track temperature 78 degrees.
12:00 p.m. and we're ready to roll but the track isn't. The left lane is completely white from half track down. Lots of oil dry this weekend.
12:19 p.m. and we fire the cars.
Jeg won this race in 2001 and was runner up in 03 and 04. He has a 12-5 record against Johnson. Johnson enters this match with a 105 - 141 record in competition.
As would be expected, Jeg puts the Mopar in the left lane.
Neither car is in a hurry to pull in, but Allen goes first
AJ leaves first but runs into a bit of wiggle through 2nd and 3rd.
Jeg thunders by.
Allen Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-0.989 sec., 330ft-2.778, 660ft-4.260/166.27mph, 1,000ft-5.539 Jeg Coughlin's incremental times: 60ft-0.989 sec., 330ft-2.764, 660ft-4.239/166.89mph, 1,000ft-5.510
(W) Dave Connolly (Torco/Slammers Cobalt) 0.051 6.594 209.95 (L) Roger Brogdon (Roger Brogdon Racing Stratus 0.079 14.991 51.07
Connolly has pretty much an all-or-nothing record here. He didn't qualify in 04, went to the finals in 05, and failed to qualify in 06. He is 1-0 against Brogdon. Brogdon continues membership in the exclusive club of those who have qualify for every race attended.
Brogdon goes right in.
Connolly follows. The light turns green and Brogdon shakes his brains out.
(W) Erica Enders (Race Girl Stratus) 0.080 6.603 208.39 (L) Jason Line (Summit Racing Equipment GTO) -0.005(R) 6.553 211.69
Line has now qualified for 76 consecutive races. He's 4-1 against Enders and won this race in 2005. Erica was runner up here last year.
Line throws it away.
And that's the fastest speed ever.
(W) Matt Scranton (GTO) 0.068 6.599 209.01 (L) Warren Johnson (GM Performance Parts GTO) 0.134 6.652 209.62
WJ has 9 previous wins here, the most of any competitor here at Gainesville. This is his best qualifying position since Sonoma last year. Scranton is is 132nd different opponent. Scranton qualified well for a very fast field, but has been faster previously. He was the driver of the Scranton Brothers Toyota, and racked 13 wins in the Pro RWD class in the Sony Xplod Sport Compact series. He has been as quick and fast as 6.51 at 217.21
The kid takes care of the Professor. WJ was loose off the line and that's all it took.
KJ is in the booth and said earlier that Scranton's car came straight from the KB stable.
(W) Mike Edwards (Young Life/A.R.T. GTO) 0.099 6.581 209.62 (L) Greg Stanfield (Piranaz Racing GTO) 0.071 20.000 37.07
Edwards has a 4-1 advantage against Stanfield. He was runner up here in 1997. Stanfield has a 103-99 record in Pro Stock and Pro Stock Truck. He won this event in PST in 2001.
Stanfield spins & shakes and this race is over.
(W) Larry Morgan (Lucas Oil Stratus) 0.055 6.582 209.82 (L) Tom Hammonds (Winnebago/Itasca Cavalier) 0.034 6.654 207.91
Morgan has a 265-272 record in Pro Stock, and was runner-up here in 1993.His consistent performances in qualifying gained his crew the Full Throttle NHRA Pit Crew Challenge award for this race. Tom Hammonds qualifies for his first race back since this event in 2003. His last appearance before his hiatus to start his GM dealership was Las Vegas in 2002.
Hammonds does a great job, but can't handle the rampaging Mopar. Nice runs on both sides.
Tom Hammonds' incremental times: 60ft-0.992 sec., 330ft-2.799, 660ft-4.289/165.50mph, 1,000ft-5.572 Larry Morgan's incremental times: 60ft-0.976 sec., 330ft-2.752, 660ft-4.229/166.70mph, 1,000ft-5.505
Larry Morgan's MOV: 0.0515 seconds (approximately 16 feet).
(W) Greg Anderson (Summit Racing Equipment GTO) 0.050 6.536 211.43 (L) Justin Humphreys (RaceRedi Motorsports GTO) 0.050 6.666 207.85
This is Anderson's 53rd #1 qualifying effort, and he has 25 wins from that starting position. Humphreys is the 48th different opponent Greg has faced. Humphreys is making his first start in NHRA's premiere gas-powered class but has 3 wins in the Xplod Sport Compact series. He has 3 wins in the Modified class.
They leave dead even.
Check the ET. It's the quickest ever and by my rough calculations, it's already backed up.
Told ya all that you needed to come down here.
(W) V. Gaines (Kendall Oil Stratus) 0.057 6.588 209.20 (L) Max Naylor (Jagermeister Stratus) 0.031 15.081 49.16
Naylor continues to get the Jagermeister car in front of the fans on Sunday. He is racing from his all time best qualified position. He has never faced Gaines in competition. Naylor is V Gaines' 44th different opponent. Gaines steams right down the track as Naylor is off the gas by 100 feet.
